The Society was founded in 1989 in St Malo, France at the meeting of the International Society of Limb Salvage (ISOLS). The founding members were Prof Rob Grimer and Prof Simon Carter, Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, Mr Steve Cannon, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and Prof John Healey, Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York. Since then the society has grown and holds an annual meeting which is well attended by orthopaedic oncologists from all over the world. In 2014 the society celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Birmingham meeting. The founding members met up in 2016 and toasted the Society.
